Rock Racing:
The team was founded in 2007 by Michael Ball and is associated with his Rock & Republic clothing company. The claim was made that Rock Racing signed some cyclists with a history of being in trouble or using drugs and that led to a "bad boy" image for the team. During 2008 three of their riders were banned from the Tour of California which had a strict policy of rejecting riders who had abused performance enhancing drugs. The design of their jersey with a skull and other gear promote a look that matches their image.
There was a huge controvery over whether Rock Racing would be allowed to participate in the Tour de Georgia during early 2008 which could have led to legal action. That was avoided after the team Saunier Duval Scott dropped out of the race and Rock Racing was allowed to replace them.
2008 Highlights: Seven top ten finishes in Amgen's Tour of California and four top five finishes in the Tour de Georgia with Oscar Sevilla placing 6th overall (General Classification).
